I think I figured out how to paint up these resin bases I bought for my Salamanders Army. You can see in the last batch of pictures that they didn't turn out that great the first time around. But I think I've got it now.
What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

I've spent some more time on this guy and I think I've hammered out how exactly I'm going to do this army. The only thing I need to work on now is the Ash/Lava base, not too happy with how it turned out.

Wow, Long time no post! Sorry for the lack of updates. Life has been busy. I don't know what the others have for excuses... But don't worry! I haven't been doing nothing! I'm working on the future of ShiftedMatrix.com, new design and new feature maybe?
The real reason I came to make this post was to show off my first Salamanders Test Scheme. I painted this tonight as a test of a few techniques I've been thinking of. Not sure I'm happy with it, going to sleep on it and see how I feel later.
It's been so long since I had to paint something "clean"...

Sooo...

A Dark Heresy Board game fits will everything official GW has said about this Mystery Release. DH even goes with those new shirts GW Employees are wearing ("Everything you know is a lie...")
Not to mention something like this is right up Fantasy Flight's alley.

I am the type of person who will scour the internet for information on anything that I happen to be interested in at the time. When deciding on a new army, pondering unit effectiveness, or just plain wondering how something is supposed to work, I will devour any and all information I can on the subject. So it came to be that I began searching for information on Tyranids. Assault based armies are definitely the ones I like to play the most (yes, I know Tyranids can lay down some serious firepower, and yes I know I've been using many of those units in the past few weeks), so it was an obvious choice to start looking into building a Tyranid army.
Now, we all know of the Carnifex. Absolute monsters of close combat, and perfectly able to throw down some serious hurt via ranged biomorphs. I knew little of them, other than the intimidation from seeing one barreling down the field toward me, or their biomorph options before I picked up the codex. Once I turned to that page with the Heavy selections on it though, I was a bit overwhelmed. You can put pretty much anything you can imagine on a carnifex (short of wings), and they can really rack up the points if you're not careful.
So, I did the only thing I could do.. I consulted the intertubes! It took some time before the information I was getting was all that helpful, though, because the veteran Tyranid players all have their own catchy nicknames for different types of carnifex. Boomfex, Sniperfex, Ninjafex... Once I started to find these names, I had to embark on an entirely new search just to try and figure out what all of them meant! I picked up a lot of them in time, but even now, there are more out there that I am unaware of, I am sure.
Thanks to a fellow who goes by the name of Mystery.Shadow on the Penny-Arcade and WarpShadow forums, I now have this handy list of many of the more common carnifex nicknames and loadouts. I hope this helps someone else as much as it helped me.
